CBD Relieves Stress and Anxiety

Dread, panic, impending doom… Are you living with anxiety? You’re not alone. 18.1% of adults in the U.S. experience an anxiety disorder (1).

Symptoms of anxiety can include:

  • Feeling nervous or restless

  • An increased heart rate

  • Impending sense of danger, panic, or doom

  • Sweating

  • Fatigue

  • Excessive worry

  • Trembling

  • Trouble concentrating

  • Hyperventilation

  • Digestion issues

  • Insomnia

According to the Mayo Clinic (2).

Anxiety is a broad term that encompasses generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and many other anxiety disorders or phobias.

Treating anxiety:

Chronic stress can wreak havoc on the body and brain — altering brain structure, chemistry, and even neurotransmitters (3). Therefore, relieving anxiety is critical to long term health.

Trying to reduce stress and manage anxiety is difficult but cannabidiol (CBD) can help improve mental well-being. Regardless of the type of anxiety, research has proven that CBD can offer relief by stimulating neurotransmitter systems and neural regeneration (4).

There are many other ways to treat anxiety — medications and therapy are common. The pills commonly prescribed for anxiety are: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac or Zoloft and tranquilizers, specifically benzodiazepines, such as Valium or Xanax.

CBD is a natural, effective alternative to anti-anxiety pills. Unlike the pharmaceutical medications, it has none of the miserable side-effects. In fact, CBD has no psychoactive effect, no “high” feeling, and you can’t overdose on it. It offers holistic healing through the power of plants.

How CBD works with the brain to relieve anxiety:

When you consume a dose of CBD, it is absorbed and utilized by the body’s natural endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS has receptors throughout the body, including the brain. This means CBD can positively impact brain function, including serotonin and dopamine which are linked to mood disorders. Stabilizing the levels of these neurotransmitters can aid in anxiety disorders and the body’s response to anxiety.

Research even suggests that repeated CBD use may help the hippocampus regenerate neurons, which could be useful for treating anxiety or depression (5).
