Battle the hangover... with CBD

Updated: Sep 21, 2018

Remember your last hangover? If it was a bad one, you probably do. We all know the grueling feeling of nausea, headache and dehydration the following morning after a gnarly binger from the night before. You had your fun, now you're payin' for it -- unless you're Ron Swanson from Parks 'n' Rec.

But before you give up and just decide to quit drinking altogether, let us tell you that there is, in fact, some hope. Hope that comes in the form of CBD. The non-psychoactive cannabidiol that's taking the world by storm with it's natural healing powers that people and animals alike are taking advantage of.

Now we can add 'hangover relief' to it's long list of benefits. We'll explain. But first, we need to understand what a hangover is, and why they happen.

A hangover is attributed to a combination of physical and mental symptoms that take place after a night (or day -- yeah, lookin' at you day-drinkers) of heavy drinking. Physical symptoms include fatigue, headache, light/sound sensitivity, muscles aches and increased thirst.

Alcohol in general directly irritates the stomach and intestines, and can cause inflammation of the stomach lining. These factors in turn may lead to abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea.

So now that we've got that lovely image in mind. How do we paint a prettier picture and cure these hangovers?

CBD.

CBD has been found to regulate nausea and vomiting. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI):

"Considerable evidence demonstrates that manipulation of the endocannabinoid system regulates nausea and vomiting in humans and other animals."

Broken down, the "CB1" or cannaboid receptor 1, has benefits that suppress vomiting and nausea, within a limited dose range, according to the study.

So what about headaches? Massive headaches can be one of the worst symptoms to deal with upon waking up. Instead of pounding ibuprofen, yes, CBD may again be the answer.

Headaches or migraines, or essentially, inflammation within the head and brain, are common whilst battling your hangover. According to our friends over at the NCBI again, CBD can help reduce inflammation, and in turn help to relieve that annoying headache:

A study showed that CBD, "may have great therapeutic potential in the treatment of diabetic complications, and perhaps other cardiovascular disorders, by attenuating oxidative/nitrative stress, inflammation, cell death and fibrosis."

Pretty good stuff.

We of course do suggest hydrating as much as possible in between drinks and the following morning.

But if you want to pack an extra hangover-fighting, falcon punch -- use a tincture to drop in the wonderful healing oil that is CBD.

A winning combo.

You can even sprinkle in some CBD oil with your eggs in the morning -- an undervalued agent that battles hangovers. Or even some coconut water.

Now you know the details, and now we can all start to feel like Ron Swanson every morning after a long night of drinking: with the power of CBD.
